Video Essay: Our Final (for now) Safari

After 14 months in southern Africa, we took two final short safaris which contrasted nicely: a luxury lodge in the flooding Okavango Delta and a 4×4 camping trip to the arid Central Kalahari Game Reserve, both in Botswana.

The video is 12 minutes. If you’re short on time, skip to the last 3 minutes!

  1. . . just wish we had the bandwidth in our little backwater – ‘Oh, well!’

    1. I can relate to that! This will be the last video for awhile; we arrived in South Korea yesterday (where the internet is screaming fast, incidentally – no more waiting 15 minutes for your orchid photos to load!) and I don’t expect the temples to be doing anything worth videoing…

  2. I enjoyed watching the video again. So well done and great narrative! I’ll probably watch it at least once more. Too good to shelve for long.

  3. What a lovely end to your trip. House sitting in Maun! I didn’t realise it was there and such a lovely place.

    1. We were pleasantly surprised to find how centrally located Maun is, and even with pets to care for, how easy it was to take trips into Moremi, Nxai Pan, etc. If you drive through, the town doesn’t look like much but it has good tourist infrastructure and we were lucky to be right on the river with spectacular birds and even a resident hippo or two.

(In response to your last question when I ran out of reply options, we sold the Toyota and all of our camping gear to an Aussie who arrived just as we were leaving. It worked out for all of us, but boy will we miss that little rooftop tent!)
