A fun trip by train* to the coast, the highlight of this deceptively-industrial-looking town was a beautiful waterfront park with a striking black & white promenade where little kids rode bikes and the adults sauntered on a Friday afternoon. And amazing seafood (Osteria La Barrocciaia, 37€ for dinner for two with wine and coffee): it was a chance to eat some place more “local” than can be found easily in the touristy center of Florence where we live. When we sat down at the table for dinner the waiter delivered (as he did to all the tables) a jug of very drinkable red house wine; as far as I could tell from the bill we weren’t charged for it. As a matter of fact the entire dinner cost less than our 10-minute cab ride from the airport to hotel in Venice a month earlier.
